Summer Skincare Tips for Oily Skin

While it might not have been the Hot Girl Summer we were all hoping for here in Aus, the weather has still warmed up and for those of us with oily or acne prone skin it might be time to fine tune our routine.

When the temperature rises and the humidity kicks in (looking at you QLD), it can spell disaster for those of us with oily skin. Worrying about greasy skin or extra breakouts is not on our holiday To Do list, so let’s put the spotlight on some of our Summer Skincare Tips for Oily/Acne Prone Skin. That way we can all kick back, unwind and have a margarita… (even if it is indoors…cheers La Nina)


Let’s start with Cleansing! 

Just because our skin is oily doesn’t mean we need to overdo it with the cleanser! Twice a day is all you need. If you over cleanse your face you can end up damaging the skin barrier, causing irritation and redness, or end up producing more sebum which in turn leads to more breakouts. Not a mood.

Lighten It Up

Even though you might be tempted to starve your skin of moisture it will only lead to increased oil production, so it’s best to choose a lightweight moisturiser that won’t feel too heavy on the skin.


This is also a good time to remind everyone that just because you have oily skin doesn’t mean you should skip the sunscreen! Choose a lightweight, non-sticky sunscreen for your morning routine. Just add water. It’s a summer must (and also a GREAT tv show…anyone??) Staying hydrated is super important during these summer months, after all, beauty starts from the inside. Keep your water bottle on you throughout the day and get sipping, especially if you are drinking coffee. It’s also important to shower after you’ve been sweating – whether it’s from a tough session at Barry’s Bootcamp or just from the packed commute home from work. Jump in the shower and wash off the sweat. Your skin (and your partner) will appreciate it. 


For On The Go
